Food

1. Protocol: Be sure to take a fresh plate every time you want to serve yourself more food at a buffet.

2. Protocol: When dining with friends and families, be sure to serve yourself a course at a time and not pile all the entrees on your plate at once. It is simply not polite.

3. Protocol: Be sure to pass on entree plate to people sitting next to you before serving yourself. It is not polite to do it the other way.

4. Protocol: Serve yourself only as much as your plate can hold comfortably. You may serve yourself multiple times using a fresh plate.

5. Seating: There is a reason why seating assignments are made during weddings and other events. Do not wander around and socialize during meal time.

6. Protocol: Pushing your chair in when you get up from dinning table is considered polite.

7. Conversation: Only speak when you finished your morsel and not while eating it.

8. Conversation: It is considered polite to stop eating when other person is speaking at a dinner table.

9. Habits: Belching after meals is not a good habit. It may be acceptable in certain cultures but not in western societies.

10. Protocol: Wait for your host to seat themselves before starting your meal. It is not polite to start eating before everybody is seated.

11. Protocol: Help yourself to dishes offered to by the host. Do not ask for an item which is not served.

12. Protocol: Pace yourself while eating with others. Do not rush and gobble the food quickly.

13. Protocol: To the extent possible make use of fork and knife while eating. Bread can be eaten using your hands. You may have grown eating without cutlery but now you need to evolve and learn proper etiquette.

14. Your conduct: Do you know how to set your fork and knife after you finish your meal? It is simple. Both your knife and fork should be parallel and aligned roughly at 9:20 if your dinner plate is a clock.

15. Your conduct: Always select food that you can eat with your fork when you are required to eat while standing.

16. Your conduct: While serving yourself at a buffet, hold your fork with your left thumb and serve yourself with your right hand.
